Veterinary Medical Director

A leading 24/7 specialty and emergency hospital in Tysons Corner, VA is seeking a Specialty Medical Director (Internist or ER DVM), with compensation up to $310,000. Signing, retention and relocation packages up to $75,000.

The hospital brings together board-certified specialists across internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, cardiology, surgery, neurology and rehabilitation, supported by radiology resources for complex cases. Advanced diagnostics include a CT scanner, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy and a comprehensive in-house laboratory and pharmacy. Skilled licensed veterinary technicians, care coordinators and ER leadership provide strong clinical and administrative support. The hospital also offers a teaching environment with rotating interns and a structured mentorship program. Flexible scheduling options are available, and the Medical Director receives an annual leadership stipend.

The Role
- Provide medical leadership and uphold high standards of patient care across specialty and emergency services
- Develop, implement and monitor medical protocols, policies and quality metrics
- Foster a unified, collaborative environment among ER and specialty teams
- See patients and manage complex cases while modeling best practices in client communication
- Oversee medical record quality and continuity of care, including case handoffs and rounds
- Manage controlled substance protocols and pharmacy oversight
- Collaborate with hospital leadership on strategic planning, inventory decisions and capital equipment budgeting
- Lead doctor meetings, support intern development and contribute to a positive teaching culture
- Evaluate workflow from intake to discharge and drive continuous improvement in efficiency and service

Requirements
- DVM or VMD from an accredited institution
- License (or eligibility) to practice veterinary medicine in Virginia
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
- Completion of a 1-year small animal rotating internship and a 3-year, AVMA-approved residency (Internal Medicine or Emergency/Critical Care)
- Strong clinical, diagnostic and leadership skills with excellent communication abilities
- Board certification preferred; 2-5 years post-residency experience a plus
