Veterinary Medical Director

The Hospital
This established small animal hospital delivers comprehensive primary and urgent care with a collaborative, team-first culture. The incoming Medical Director will find:
- A cohesive, multi-role team structure including veterinarians, licensed technicians, veterinary assistants, and client service professionals
- Broad clinical services: wellness and preventive care, anesthesia-supported surgery and dentistry, pain management, and hospitalization with ICU-level monitoring and isolation capability
- On-site diagnostics and treatment support: general radiography, dental radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory testing, and in-house pharmacy
- Experience with urgent and emergency presentations during open hours, with clear referral pathways for after-hours needs
- Client-friendly systems: wellness/membership plans and digital tools for appointments, prescription refills, and access to medical records
- Boarding and daycare services that complement clinical care and foster long-term client relationships

The Role
- Lead medical quality, establish and uphold clinical protocols, and champion evidence-based medicine
- Mentor and develop veterinarians, technicians, and support staff; cultivate a positive, learning-focused culture
- Balance clinical casework with defined leadership and administrative responsibilities
- Oversee patient safety, anesthesia and pain management standards, and continuous quality improvement
- Partner with the Practice Manager on workflow efficiency, scheduling, inventory, budgeting, and client experience
- Guide diagnostic and treatment plans leveraging on-site radiography, dental imaging, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory capabilities
- Support preventive care initiatives and client education, including wellness plan adoption and digital client tools
- Provide guidance for urgent case triage during business hours and coordinate after-hours referral processes
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and performance feedback for the medical team
- Engage with community outreach to strengthen client relationships and hospital reputation

Requirements
- DVM or VMD degree from an accredited institution
- Active Texas veterinary license (or ability to obtain) in good standing
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- Proven clinical experience in small animal practice; prior leadership or mentorship experience preferred
- Proficiency in general surgery and dentistry; comfortable with radiography, dental imaging, ultrasound, and in-house diagnostics
- Excellent communication skills and commitment to collaborative, team-based care
- DEA registration (or eligibility)
- Willingness to participate in a rotating schedule that may include some weekends and urgent case support during operating hours
