The Hospital
A longstanding, community-respected practice serving the East Bay for decades, this small, well-organized clinic offers a close-knit, collaborative environment with strong technical support. An on-site Registered Veterinary Technician, experienced assistants, and client service professionals work alongside the Medical Director to deliver excellent care and communication. The hospital provides in-house laboratory diagnostics, digital radiography, a dedicated surgical and treatment area, oxygen and IV stabilization capabilities, and an on-site pharmacy. Services span wellness and preventive care, dentistry, spay/neuter and soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery, same-day urgent care during business hours, and emergency triage. The caseload includes dogs, cats, and small/exotic patients such as rabbits, reptiles, birds, and pocket pets. The practice operates five days a week and emphasizes work-life balance, mentorship, and professional growth.

The Role
- Serve as the clinical leader while maintaining a hands-on caseload in general practice, dentistry, and surgery
- Set and uphold medical quality standards, patient safety, and client experience benchmarks
- Mentor, coach, and develop veterinarians and support staff; lead case discussions and medical record reviews
- Partner with the Practice Manager on scheduling, workflow optimization, inventory, and hospital priorities
- Organize and lead regular doctor meetings; refine protocols and drive continuous improvement
- Ensure accurate, timely medical records and appropriate, compliant charging
- Oversee medical equipment use and maintenance to ensure safety and regulatory compliance
- Maintain compliance with controlled substances and radiation safety; serve as Responsible Veterinarian as needed
- Support recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of veterinary team members
- Engage with the local community to strengthen the hospital’s presence and support practice growth

Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent from an accredited institution
- Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice in California
- Eligible to work in the United States
- DEA license eligibility
- Strong communication skills and a client-centered approach
- Previous leadership experience (Lead Veterinarian, Chief of Staff, or Medical Director) preferred; mentorship interest welcomed
- Comfortable with small animal medicine and surgery; interest in exotics is a plus
