The Role
- Lead, coach, and develop associate veterinarians across assigned hospitals to ensure consistent, high-quality medical care
- Provide clinical services as a working manager; percentage of clinical time aligned with hospital needs
- Partner with practice management to drive medical standards, teamwork, and a positive, inclusive culture
- Oversee quality of care through medical record reviews, case audits, and patient safety reviews
- Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements, including controlled substance management and applicable permits
- Guide newly hired veterinarians through onboarding, coaching, and hands-on skills development in medicine, surgery, and dentistry
- Recruit, interview, and help onboard veterinary talent; create robust succession and talent-development plans
- Drive hospital performance metrics by aligning preventive care, clinical workflows, and client experience
- Address escalated client concerns related to medical standards; promote access to care and service excellence
- Manage medical equipment needs and requests in collaboration with regional veterinary leadership
- Schedule includes weekday coverage with rotating weekends; role is 100 percent hospital-based

Requirements
- DVM/VMD degree from an accredited institution
- Active California veterinary license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
- Eligibility for DEA registration
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Proven surgical proficiency in routine procedures
- Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills
- Ability to work a schedule that includes rotating weekend coverage
- Willingness to travel locally between assigned hospitals as needed
