Veterinary Surgeon ? Soft Tissue

We are seeking a skilled Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgeon to join our growing multi-specialty veterinary hospital.

You will perform advanced soft tissue surgical procedures for a diverse caseload of small animals, collaborate with other specialists, and contribute to the development of a high-quality, multidisciplinary surgical program.

Position: Veterinary Surgeon - Soft Tissue
Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent
Location: Southern Ontario (commutable to major urban centres, exact location disclosed upon application)
Hours of Work: 40 hours/week, with occasional weekend rotations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosis & Consultation: Evaluate and diagnose conditions requiring soft tissue surgery; consult with pet owners regarding treatment options and outcomes.
  • Surgical Planning & Procedures: Develop and execute surgical plans tailored to each patient, performing procedures including gastrointestinal, urogenital, thoracic, and oncologic surgeries.
  • Emergency Surgery: Respond to urgent surgical cases such as trauma or internal bleeding.
  • Postoperative Care: Monitor recovery, prescribe medications, and guide postoperative protocols.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with radiologists, oncologists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Interpret ultrasound, CT, and other imaging studies for surgical planning.
  • Client Education & Record Keeping: Educate owners on surgical care and maintain detailed medical records.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with advances in soft tissue surgery and participate in continuing education.
  • Compliance & Ethics: Adhere to professional, ethical, and regulatory standards governing veterinary surgery.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent.
  • Completed residency or equivalent postgraduate surgical training (3 - 4 years).
  • Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS).
  • Eligible for provincial licensure in Ontario.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility for staggered shifts, including occasional nights or weekends.
