A leading, privately owned small animal referral hospital in Melbourne is seeking a Veterinary Oncology Specialist or Oncology Registrar to join its expanding multidisciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a full-time or part-time clinician who thrives in a collaborative, high-volume referral environment.

About the Role

You will play a central role in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of cancer in companion animals, delivering advanced, evidence-based oncology care. Working closely with an established team of specialists, you will contribute to personalised treatment plans and support families through complex clinical decisions with empathy and clarity.

The caseload is diverse and high volume, supported by strong interdepartmental collaboration with surgery, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, and anaesthesia. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to clinical development, innovation, and resident training within a structured teaching environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive oncology consultations, staging, and treatment planning
  • Design and deliver chemotherapy and advanced anti-cancer therapies
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary specialist teams
  • Provide supervision, teaching, and mentorship to interns and trainees
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients
  • Contribute to clinical improvement, research, and service development initiatives

About You

  • Eligible for specialist registration in veterinary oncology (or currently registered)
  • Residency-trained candidates will be considered
  • Strong clinical experience in medical oncology
  • Eligible for veterinary registration in Victoria (or willing to obtain it)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team
  • Commitment to high clinical standards and continuous improvement
  • Interest in teaching and mentoring junior staff
