Applications are welcomed from board-certified specialists (ACVECC, ECVECC, FANZCVS ECC or equivalent), as well as residency-trained veterinarians approaching completion of their training.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Criticalist looking to work within a collaborative referral environment while helping to grow an evolving Intensive Care Unit.

You will manage a varied and rewarding caseload, working alongside specialists across multiple disciplines to provide the highest standard of emergency and critical care for companion animals.

  • Digital radiography

  • Developing Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The Role

As the Veterinary Criticalist, you will play an integral role within the Emergency and Critical Care team, with responsibilities including:

  • Managing complex emergency and critically ill patients.
  • Delivering specialist-level emergency and intensive care medicine.
  • Working collaboratively with specialists across multiple disciplines.
  • Providing advice and support to referring veterinary practices.
  • Developing comprehensive treatment plans for ICU patients.
  • Mentoring emergency clinicians, interns and nursing staff.
  • Supporting the ongoing growth and development of the Emergency and Critical Care service.
  • Contributing to clinical governance, protocols and service improvements.

You will become part of a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team comprising specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, along with experienced referral nurses and support staff.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential
  • Diplomate status (ACVECC, ECVECC, FANZCVS ECC or equivalent), or be residency-trained and board-eligible.
  • Eligibility for veterinary registration in Queensland.
  • Strong clinical expertise in Emergency and Critical Care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary patient care.
  • A commitment to delivering exceptional clinical outcomes and client service.

Desirable
  • Leadership or mentoring experience.
  • An interest in teaching and clinical education.
  • Experience developing Emergency and Critical Care protocols or service initiatives.
