The Team

You will be joining one of the largest anaesthesia specialist teams in Australia, supported by:

  • Specialist Anaesthetists across multiple hospitals
  • Emergency and Critical Care Specialists
  • Surgeons and interventional specialists
  • Internal Medicine clinicians
  • Oncology, Neurology and Ophthalmology teams
  • Highly experienced veterinary nurses and interns

The hospital operates within a wider specialist network, enabling collaboration, shared expertise and multidisciplinary case support across multiple sites.

The Role

As a Veterinary Anaesthesia Specialist, you will play a key role in delivering advanced anaesthetic and analgesic care across a wide variety of complex surgical and diagnostic procedures.

You will work closely with critical care, surgical and imaging teams to ensure optimal patient safety and outcomes, while contributing to clinical teaching and service development within a growing specialist hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing advanced anaesthesia and analgesia for complex referral and emergency cases.
  • Developing and implementing anaesthetic protocols and pain management strategies.
  • Collaborating with surgeons, critical care and diagnostic teams.
  • Supporting perioperative care and patient monitoring in high-acuity cases.
  • Supervising and mentoring interns, residents and veterinary nurses.
  • Contributing to service development and clinical improvement initiatives.
  • Participating in teaching and continuing education activities.
  • Ensuring best-practice standards in patient safety and anaesthetic care.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Board-certified Veterinary Anaesthetist (DACVAA, DECVAA, FANZCVS or equivalent), or residency-trained clinician eligible for specialist certification.
  • Eligibility for veterinary registration in South Australia.
  • Strong clinical expertise in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary referral environment.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence and compassionate patient care.

Desirable
  • Experience in a referral or specialist hospital setting.
  • Interest in teaching, mentoring or training programs.
  • Experience contributing to service development or clinical leadership.
