An exciting opportunity is available for a Board-Certified Veterinary Medical Oncologist or Board-Eligible Clinician to take on a leadership role as Head of Medical Oncology within a premier specialist, emergency and referral hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

You will be joining a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, including:

The Role

As Head of Medical Oncology, you will lead the continued development and expansion of the Medical Oncology service.

You will work closely with surgical oncology and other specialties to deliver integrated cancer care, while also shaping the clinical direction, standards and future growth of the department.

This role includes both clinical and leadership responsibilities, with a strong focus on service development, mentorship and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and developing the Medical Oncology service.
  • Managing a diverse and complex oncology caseload.
  • Delivering advanced chemotherapy and oncology treatment protocols.
  • Collaborating closely with surgical oncology and other specialties.
  • Enhancing integrated cancer care pathways, including electrochemotherapy use.
  • Providing specialist consultations and treatment planning.
  • Mentoring and supporting residents, interns and clinical staff.
  • Contributing to clinical governance, protocols and service strategy.
  • Supporting client and referring veterinarian relationships.

What We're Looking For

Essential
  • Board-certified Medical Oncologist (ACVIM, ECVIM, RCVS, ANZCVS or equivalent), or board-eligible clinician near completion of examinations.
  • Eligibility for veterinary registration in Victoria, Australia.
  • Strong clinical expertise in medical oncology.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability or interest in service leadership.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to collaborative, patient-centred care.

Desirable
  • Experience in a referral or specialist hospital environment.
  • Interest in teaching, mentoring or residency training programs.
  • Experience in service development or clinical leadership roles.
