An exciting opportunity is available for a Board-Certified Emergency & Critical Care Specialist or Residency-Trained ECC Veterinarian eligible for certification to join a rapidly expanding multidisciplinary referral hospital in Adelaide, South Australia.

This is a full-time position within a modern, purpose-built specialist facility delivering advanced emergency and critical care services as part of a growing 24/7 referral network.

The successful candidate will join a highly experienced Critical Care team and play a key role in leading intensive care services, supporting emergency clinicians and collaborating across multiple specialty disciplines.

The Team

You will be joining a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team including:

  • Multiple Emergency & Critical Care Specialists
  • Internal Medicine Specialists
  • Surgeons available for 24-hour surgical support
  • Neurology, Oncology and Ophthalmology teams
  • On-site radiology services
  • Experienced ECC veterinarians and nursing teams

The hospital is supported by a wider specialist network across multiple locations, enabling case discussion, shared expertise and collaborative clinical management.

The Role

As an Emergency & Critical Care Specialist, you will take a leadership role within the ICU and Emergency service, managing complex and high-acuity cases while supporting a growing team of emergency veterinarians.

You will work closely with specialists across multiple disciplines to deliver coordinated, evidence-based care and ensure optimal patient outcomes.

This role also provides opportunities to contribute to teaching, mentorship and the continued development of critical care services within a rapidly expanding hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading management of critical and high-acuity emergency cases.
  • Overseeing ICU case management and treatment planning.
  • Supervising and supporting emergency veterinarians in clinical decision-making.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary specialists on complex cases.
  • Providing advanced ECC consultations and clinical leadership.
  • Contributing to development of ECC protocols and service improvement.
  • Supporting and mentoring interns, residents and clinical staff.
  • Participating in teaching and professional development activities.

What We're Looking For

Essential
  • Board-certified ECC Specialist (ACVECC, ECVECC, FANZCVS or equivalent), or residency-trained veterinarian eligible for certification.
  • Eligibility for veterinary registration in South Australia.
  • Strong clinical expertise in emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage high-pressure clinical environments.
  • Commitment to collaborative, patient-focused care.

Desirable
  • Experience in leadership or service development roles.
  • Interest in teaching, mentoring or training programs.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary referral hospitals.
