Recruiting the perfectVeterinarian for their Animal Hospital in Austin, Texas

“I Was Beyond Skeptical.”

Dr. Chow | Animal Hospital | Austin, Texas

How Global Talent Partners helped a highly selective independent practice find one of its best-fit veterinarians in three years

The Challenge

Dr. Chow has worked in the veterinary profession for more than 20 years and has been a practice owner for 15. Animal Hospital is a privately owned practice with high standards of medicine and surgery, and Dr. Chow is equally selective about the veterinarians she brings into the team.
Animal Hospital in Texas Case Study

It was my strong belief that any applicant using a service must have something wrong with them, I now believe this is the new way that veterinarians find placement.

A Strong Track Record of Hiring Independently

Their practice had never struggled to recruit veterinarians.
Although the number of applicants had decreased over the previous five years, Dr. Chow continued to successfully find and hire DVMs without using a recruitment agency.
For her, there had simply never been a compelling reason to change that approach.

There was also a perception to overcome.

Dr. Chow had always questioned why a strong, proactive veterinarian would need a recruiter to find their next position. Historically, she had viewed a candidate using a recruitment service as a potential red flag.
Previous experiences with recruiters had done little to change her mind.

Previous Recruiters Hadn’t Delivered

Over several years, Dr. Chow had spoken with numerous recruiters. She had even engaged a couple of agencies to see what they could bring to the table.
They hadn’t produced a single applicant.

So when Global Talent Partners approached their practice, expectations were understandably low.
Based on her previous experience, Dr. Chow expected Global Talent Partners to be another recruitment company making similar promises without delivering candidates.

The Global Talent Partners Approach

The objective wasn’t simply to generate more applicants.
It was to understand what made someone genuinely right for their practice and then identify veterinary professionals with the potential to meet those expectations.

1. Understanding What “Right” Looked Like

Their practice wasn’t looking for just any veterinarian.
The right DVM needed the clinical capability to succeed within a high-quality medical and surgical environment, but technical ability alone wasn’t enough.
Personality, communication, client interaction and overall fit with the practice mattered too.
Understanding those requirements allowed Anthony to look beyond a résumé and focus on candidates with the potential to succeed within their practice specifically.

Global Talent Partners doesn’t rely solely on candidates responding to job adverts.
Our veterinary team is continually networking with DVMs, developing referrals, attending industry events, speaking with students and early-career doctors, and maintaining relationships with veterinary professionals throughout their careers.
That means when the right opportunity arises, we can proactively start conversations with people who may be open to moving, even if they aren’t actively searching job boards.

The difference quickly became apparent.
Global Talent Partners introduced four skilled DVM candidates to their practice.
At the same time, Dr. Chow’s own recruitment efforts generated another three applicants.
That gave her seven candidates to consider, and a direct comparison between candidates she had attracted herself and those introduced by Global Talent Partners.

Of those seven candidates, two emerged as the strongest options for the practice.
Both had been introduced by Global Talent Partners.
Importantly, it wasn’t simply their qualifications or experience that differentiated them.
They stood out in the areas Dr. Chow considered particularly important: personality, communication and clinical capability.

The Results

Dr. Chow had candidates available whom she could have hired directly, without paying a recruitment fee.
But when she compared the candidates in front of her, avoiding the fee wasn’t the most important consideration. Finding the better veterinarian was.

1

Exceptional new hire

While I could’ve hired someone without a fee, we found two of his applicants to be the most promising.

Their practice ultimately hired one of the veterinarians introduced by Global Talent Partners.
The result wasn’t simply a filled vacancy.

Out of 7 applicants, we hired a super veterinarian whom we think is one of the best fits we’ve found in the past 3 years.

More Than a Successful Hire

Something else happened during the recruitment process.
Dr. Chow’s perception of recruiters, and the veterinarians choosing to work with them, began to change.
She started asking candidates why they had chosen to use a recruiter.
There wasn’t one answer.
Some were relocating and unfamiliar with the local market. Some wanted help identifying independently owned practices rather than corporate employers. Others valued having someone understand what they were looking for and introduce opportunities they may not have discovered themselves.
It challenged the assumption that using a recruiter meant a candidate lacked initiative.
Instead, Dr. Chow began to recognize that the way veterinarians navigate the employment market is changing.

I now believe this is the new way that veterinarians find placement.

From Skepticism to Advocacy

Perhaps one of the strongest outcomes wasn’t the hire itself.
It was what happened afterwards.
After years of unsuccessful conversations with recruiters, Dr. Chow had finally experienced a different result.
Global Talent Partners had introduced four candidates. Two became her strongest options. And one ultimately became one of their practice’s best-fit hires in three years.
The experience changed her view enough that she went on to recommend Global Talent Partners to another veterinarian in her network.

I’ve had numerous recruiters reach out to me, and I’ve even humored a couple to see what they could bring, they never were able to deliver.

Her experience with Global Talent Partners was different. By the end of the process,
Dr. Chow said she was grateful that their practice had chosen to use the recruitment service.
