Key Duties

Diagnosing and treating complex medical conditions in animals, including those related to the digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory, and urinary systems
Conducting comprehensive physical exams and laboratory tests, such as blood work, X-rays, and ultrasound, to diagnose and monitor medical conditions
Developing treatment plans, including medications, therapies, and dietary recommendations, to manage and treat medical conditions
Communicating with pet owners and referring veterinarians to provide updates on the pet's condition, prognosis, and recommended treatment
Collaborating with other veterinary specialists, such as surgeons and radiologists, to provide comprehensive care for pets with multiple or complex medical conditions

Key Skills, Qualifications & Client Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school
Successful completion of a rigorous three-year residency program in veterinary internal medicine, accredited by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM)
Successful passing of the certification examination given by the ACVIM
Active veterinary license in good standing in the state where they practice
Strong clinical skills, including physical examination and diagnostic procedures such as laboratory tests, radiography, and ultrasonography
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and tasks simultaneously
Compassion for animals and a commitment to providing high-quality veterinary care
